Colin has extensive training in somatic therapies, counseling, craniosacral therapy, energy work and completed a two year heart centered space holding mentorship. He has offered mindfulness classes and groups both online and in person.
He has spent more than four non-consecutive years of his life on retreats. His contemplative practice, inner work and study of neurobiology, counseling and trauma has lead to an understanding of how important it is to honor the clarity, openness and presence while acknowledging and allowing for whatever confusion, contraction and resistance may be arising.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT YOUR APPROACH?
This approach to inner work is designed to place our nervous system's innate intelligence and feedback first. We do not heal or learn when our nervous system is overwhelmed, or shutdown. One of the principles of this work is that we slow down and establish presence, ground or heart and pause if it is lost. This allows for transformative work that is balanced, and able to be integrated. This differs from many spiritual approaches that privilege simply providing a wide open space to allow whatever is unfolding, regardless how the nervous system is responding.
The perspective on "resistance" or "pesky ego," is reframed as old strategies designed to keep us safe. Not just something to push through or blindly eradicate. Our thoughts, mind, defenses, restlessness, agitation, impatience, and aggression are understood to be there for a reason. They are not obstacles, they are the path. We work with place of "stuckness," never bypassing the integrity of these parts whose strategies were at one point crucial. It is discovered that there is always a gift or something to be reclaimed burried in whatever we have been trying to avoid or banish.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A SESSION?
Sessions generally start with a period of meditation.It can be silent or guided or a combination.The intention is to rest into presence, awareness, beingness which are often experiences as sensations in or around the body. This is the foundation and ground of the session. From here we can explore what feels alive.
Sessions range from more didactic or coaching around contemplative practice or somatic resources to slower inquiry into the subltly of the unfolding inner depths.
